Umm… not sure if I have anything good for people genuinely interested in my blog, but I always have something interesting for people who might love to see shit happening with me! Should I be starting a new category - “Shit Happens”
Well, here is something new that happened about an hour back - I did a /bin/rm -rf * in my home directory! It was too late by the time I pressed Ctrl-C. Though there are enough reasons to panic, I hope that the most critical data is still safe on by backup machines. Just for the statistics sake this takes my “rm -rf” count to 2! If you are looking for a more funny “rm” story the one by Pari could be the one you are searching for.
The irony: I know that I lost some data and I am here cribbing about my foolishness! Even otherwise, there is nothing I could do about the things lost!
Being extra careful: I had a folder called “Trash” and my “rm” function would normally copy the files/folders to “Trash”. Now the unthinkable happened, my “Trash” folder was too big, and I decided to clean it up - as you can guess, I did a “rm -rf” in my home folder rather than doing it in my “Trash” folder! A very good example of data safety strategy backfiring ;(
